A Sprint to Agile Story
Joseph Guagenti, Founder and Director of SAP Business Development, shared his journey from waterfall to agile project management in hopes it may help those who are still struggling to find a system that works for them. You can read the full Epic Story from Waterfall to Agile on our blog page.
Since we found Tuleap, a platform for Agile Management and Software Development, the door has opened wide to the endless variety of ways in which it can be utilized and fulfill its purpose. Responding to and embracing change has never been easier.
To address a comment that was made, we’d like to elaborate on a couple of things in the story.
"That's a very nice story, thanks for sharing. If I read you correctly, the approach you had with redmine was "too technical" and you managed to be more "business centric" with Tuleap. How did that happen? What did you do with Tuleap that was not possible with redmine (except the nightmare upgrades)?"
1) Why not Redmine:
In 2009, we picked Redmine for its functionality, not its looks. We spent time theming it, but it still didn't come close to Tuleap (or any other newer PMs) out of the box. Redmine has agile support today. We don’t believe it did in 2009. Redmine agile was part of our final seven reviews in 2015. Just like in 2009, it came close to what we needed. We thought we knew how the system worked and had a host of tools created for it. The desktop time tracker we created alone was a good reason to use Redmine. In the end, we rejected Redmine as an option going forward for a number of reasons (code maintenance, graphic interface, navigation, to name just a few).
2) Why Tuleap:
Tuleap complements SAP Business One . With that in mind, the configuration of the PM needs to be data driven NOT custom code. The PM needs to fit companies with very simple requirements (e.g. only support tickets) and companies that have very complex needs with software version control. The PM should be simple to use and navigate. Tuleap was the clear choice as it supports both simple and complex requirements.
